Street Support – Supporting SWEP in Brighton

By James Cross

Street Support – Brighton & Hove has been busy getting supplies for the SWEP shelter housing facility for the “protect and vaccinate” scheme that essentially houses rough sleepers until at least the end of March 2022.  Holland Road Baptist Church have also been offering support and the council’s manager, Steve Terry, can be seen here with a toaster bought by the church for the SWEP shelter.

The council is still searching for appropriate and more permanent premises for SWEP provision and therefore services to rough sleepers has been a bit more patchy that in recent years.  If you do know of anything appropriate, please do not hesitate to get in touch. It would need to be a safe venue that could house 20 + rough sleepers during the worst weather conditions and would need kitchen facilities and toilet/ bathroom facilities too.
