The Dorothy Parkes Centre is an award winning community centre based in Smethwick, a diverse and deprived area in the Metropolitan Borough of Sandwell in the West Midlands.
Our Centre aims to be a safe place of welcome and opportunity to the local and wider community and is fully accessible, open seven days a week. There are a variety of groups, classes, and activities available at our Centre which all aim to help tackle local issues such as physical health, mental health, obesity, social isolation, low educational attainment, poverty and unemployment.

Dottie's Community Fridge
This exciting project offers free surplus food to anyone in need, thanks to generous funding from Hubbub and Heart of England Community Foundation.
Dottie's Community Fridge aims to reduce food waste while supporting our local community. The fridge will be stocked with surplus food, available free of charge on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. It's our hope that this initiative will make a real difference, providing people with access to healthy, nutritious food while reducing unnecessary waste.
How Dottie's Community Fridge Works
Dottie's Community Fridge is here to serve everyone. Whether you're facing financial challenges, looking to reduce your own food waste, or simply want to access surplus food in a convenient location, the fridge is available to all. It operates on a no-questions-asked basis, ensuring that anyone who needs food can easily access it without judgment.
Simply visit the Dorothy Parkes Centre on Tuesdays (12pm to 2pm), Wednesdays (9.30am to 12pm & 5pm to 7pm) and Fridays between 9.30am and 12pm to see what’s available. Whether it’s fresh fruit, vegetables, bread, or packaged items, there will always be a variety of options for you to take home.

Sessions take place every Friday morning, with a cuppa and some conversation offered to anyone who drops in - and you can stay as little or as long as you like during the session time of 10-12. Support and signposting to local services is also available.
